Every Picture Tells His Story

trashy rod The Pictures: Post-Faces equals bad taste

The Stories: In 1976, Rod was quoted in Rolling Stone as saying, "I can't let my image rule my life anymore". Maybe that's why his wardrobe choices became questionable at best. With his music swaying from soul-flavored-rock to rock-flavored-disco, he abandoned his dandy tailored threads for billowing blouses and spandex leotards (left). By the early 80's, he was working with designer Fleur Thiemeyer who must have had a fetish for athletic wear, as Rod could be found performing in tank tops, sneakers, and satin jogging suits. (below left). When MTV took off, Rod used the medium to its fullest extent and experimented with the loudest colors and most clashing prints he could find. And that mane, well, let's just say birds could have lived in it (below).
