Solid Gold Brief synopsis from IMDB: "Television show featuring dancing and popular music." Brief synopsis from DFF: Could IMDB be anymore vague? This was THE quintessential 80's variety show: the biggest bands of the time would lip-sync to their chart-toppers while the famous Solid Gold dancers simulated sex, erm, uh, performed modern dance routines. Dress you up: Trying to copy this look could be hazardous to your psyche! The buxom dancers were the poster girls for 80's Jazzercisers: extremely fit and always decked out in high-cut showstopping leotards, headbands, and incredibly high-heeled shoes. You're better off trying to adopt the look of host Rex Reed. |

Roller Boogie Brief synopsis from IMDB: "Skaters band together to keep their roller-disco open." Brief synopsis from DFF: Obviously this was a great career move for Linda Blair who was trying to avoid being typecast as a spawn of the devil. Did it work? You be the judge. Dress you up: Those Williamsburg girls totally don't realize that the striped gym shorts, bodysuits, and knee-high socks they've been wearing for the past few summers looked better when paired with some rad 4-wheelers like on cast in this movie. And if Bobby had just a little bit bigger afro, we'd swear he was Steve Bays of Hot Hot Heat. |

Xanadu Brief synopsis from IMDB: "The story of a girl who makes dreams come true." Brief synopsis from DFF: Where else are you gonna find Gene Kelly on roller skates at the same time that Electric Light Orchestra collaborates with Olivia Newton-John? Instant classic! Dress you up: Those ribbon barrettes that Kira wears were all the rage when we were 8. And her knee-high slouchy booted roller skates are to-die-for. And didn't Donna Karan knocked off those awesome Greek goddess-New Wave Muse dresses fairly recently? |

Hullabaloo Brief synopsis from IMDB: There wasn't one! Brief synopsis from DFF: Musical variety show that had a rotating roster of hosts mixing it up with top rock and pop acts of the time. Also boasted a group of perky go-go girls and boys called (what else?) the Hullabaloo Dancers. Dress you up: Unfortunately, the Dancers' signature get-ups did not measure up to their fancy footwork: baggy tees and full skirts are not exactly flattering or sexy. But they'd often get a chance to shimmy and frug in spaceage Courreges and Quant knock-offs which were much more switched-on! |

Breakin' Brief synopsis from IMDB: "A struggling young jazz dancer meets up with two break-dancers. Together they become the sensation of the street crowds." Brief synopsis from DFF: It was hard choosing which 80's break-dancing movie to place on the list, but you really can't go wrong when a white suburban girl mixes it up with a couple of inner city kids and produce such beautiful moves together. It's the American Dream, you know.. Dress you up: Always love the old school hip-hop style: skinny tees, track jackets, and baggy combat trousers mixed with a little street punk in the form of studded wristbands and belts. It makes us sort of wish modern rap artists would retire the oversized t-shirts already. |

Urban Cowboy Brief synopsis from IMDB: "John Travolta stars as a young man from the country who learns about life and love in a Houston bar." Brief synopsis from DFF: Holy shit! John Travolta has never looked or danced hotter (except in Saturday Night Fever). But with super foxy Debra Winger by his side, he's got some hotness competition. Dress you up: Vintage western shirts have their moment in the fashion spotlight every couple of years or so (and seem to never go out of style in ironic hipster boy circles). But read further before attempting this style out for yourself: fancy rodeo button-downs look best when worn tight, with painted on bootleg jeans, and on skinny guys. So if your waist is bigger than 30", don't try this at home. |

Dance Fever Brief synopsis from IMDB: "Lotsa dancin', disco music 'n tight pants!" Brief synopsis from DFF: Lotsa dancin', disco music, 'n tight pants, oh my! The ultimate dance contest television program, I'm still waiting for its release on DVD. Dress you up: Think disco via Broadway musical: lots of slinky dresses covered in spangles and sequins and beads (come to think of it, their frocks were not unlike those of Kelly Monaco). They also had matching bloomers because when the girls would quickly go into spins, their skirts would swing up so high, their booties would be in full view of everyone.
