Thelma Evans: These are the Good Times

If you haven't caught it on Nick at Night, Good Times was a television sitcom that ran from 1974-1979 and centered around the day-to-day living of an African American family trying to "get by" while living in the projects of Chicago. The show is most famous for turning Jimi "J.J." Walker into a household name due to his trademark "Dyn-o-mite!" tagline, but it was sister Thelma (played by Bern Nadette Stanis) who shined the most on screen and had arguably, the best style on primetime TV. Alternating between a chic Afro or slicked back bun, her wardrobe consisted of slinky jersey disco dresses, platform sandals, and high-belted trench coats in stand-out colors.

About The Look

Here is a mid-70's candid shot of Bern Nadette in an outfit we're sure Thelma herself would approve of. A simple slim fitting turtleneck gets paired with perfectly flared bell-bottom blue jeans and camel leather boots. Topping the look is a brilliantly hued plaid blanket coat in every shade of the Crayola box of 7 (and then some).
Sweater and bell-bottoms are all vintage from 28 Crash!.
