We're An American Band
Several years ago, the indie-rock/ underground/ whatever-you-call-it-world was crowded with American bands wanting to sound 60's and British. Psychedelic pop and Beatle-esque bands became critics darlings.

But more recently, many bands rising up from the depths of the underworld are looking to a wider range of music for inspiration.

And what's more, this class of rock ‘n' roll scholars is much more comfortable on stage, realizing that the show is as important as the sound. They kick, the snarl, and they swagger just as a rock star should.

For some of these artists, the UK music press has discovered them and catapulted them to fame on their side of the Big Pond (just look at what they did for the Strokes).

But it's time for their American brothers and sisters to take some notice too. Some of these bands you may already be familiar with and others you may never have heard of.

However, you will. So take some time to check out these future stars and introduce them to your CD collection if you haven't already. Then you can bitch and moan in a few months when they are in heavy rotation on MTV.
